Winter season is here guys and while we are enjoying the chilly breeze after months of scorching summers, it is important to give your body the warmth it needs during the cold weather; otherwise, you might end up spending your winters in bed with cold-borne diseases.


When the temperature falls the metabolism of the body slows down in order to conserve energy and keep the body warm. This is one of the reasons why we end up feeling sleepy and lethargic during winters.

 

Apples:

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”Due to the presence of vitamin C, it helps the body to fight from different infectious agents. The presence of fiber in this fruit helps to prevent cholesterol levels in your body. Vitamin-B in Apple helps to maintain the RBC count as well as the proper functioning of the nervous system in the body.

 

Honey:

Honey is warm in nature and its regular intake helps in keeping the body warm, too. This is one of the reasons why the excessive intake of honey during summers is not advised. Honey is also good for keeping cold, cough and flu at bay as it strengthens the immune system.

 

Citrus fruits:

Citrus fruits include oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits. Due to the presence of antioxidants, citrus fruits help to cure heart diseases which are a common problem in late working persons as well as old age people.  The presence of the flavonoid present in the fruits of this class is highly beneficial in weight control

 

Sesame seeds:

These seeds are also loaded with iron and calcium content which strengthen the bones and muscles. You can soak some sesame seeds overnight and have them in the morning or you could make small balls of jaggery and sesame seeds and have one every morning to keep yourself energized and warm.

 

Dates:

The highly demanded winter fruit, dates is a fruit that is enriched with various vitamins, minerals, and fiber along with other health beneficiary factors like oil, calcium, sulfur, iron, copper, phosphorus, potassium, manganese and magnesium. This seasonal fruit is good for health as it fights many digestion related problems including constipation, anemia, diarrhea and many more.

 

Root vegetables:

They are vegetables that grow below the surface, like radish, turnip, and sweet potatoes. Root vegetables keep the body warm as their digestion is slower which generates more heat. You can use these vegetables to make yourself a warm soupy stew or you could eat them as salad॰

 

Pomegranates:

A good source of vitamins, protein, fiber, potassium, and folate, it is highly recommended for many diseases that are hard to cure with the help of chemical medicines. Because of being a fiber-rich natural product, it is good for digestion. Also, because of its antioxidant power, it is used to sort out many diseases related to your immune system.

 

Ghee:

Desi ghee is the most easily digestible fat which gives the body the much-needed warmth. That's not all. Ghee aides in digestion, prevents constipation, increases immunity and protects the body against cold and flu.

 

Sweet Potatoes:

As vitamin C is highly preferred in case of common cold or flu, Sweet potato can prevent you from this common disease. Also, vitamin D is highly needed by the human body to gain energy from the sun. Eating this fruit fulfills your daily requirement of sunlight that provides adequate vitamin D to your body.

 

Carrots & Radishes:

Whenever the need for blood occurs, a carrot is always remembered. This taproot is a good source of vitamin-A, minerals, antioxidants, and many more elements.
