About Punjabi Dum Aloo Recipe:


Dum Aloo or Alu Dum is a potato-based dish, it is a part of the traditional Kashmiri Pandit cuisine, from the Kashmir Valley, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The potatoes, usually smaller ones, are first deep-fried, then cooked slowly at low flame in gravy with spices. Punjabi Dum Aloo recipe is a popular recipe cooked throughout India. Lets make dum aloo recipe step-by-step.

Ingredients Of Punjabi Dum Aloo Recipe:


Main Ingredients:

  • 500 gm boiled potato
  • 2 onions - in a medium-size (finely grounded)
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 8-10 - Garlic cloves
  • 1/2 inch - Ginger
  • 1/2 cup - fresh curd
  • A spoon - cream of fresh cream or milk
  • 1 tsp - green red pepper
  • 1/2 tsp - Pisa Coriander
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder
  • Salt - according to taste
  • One big spoon - native ghee
  • 1/2 tsp - Garam Masala
  • 1/2 tsp - Cumin Seeds
  • bay leaf
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • To decorate - Green Coriander or Kasuri methi

How To Make Punjabi Dum Aloo Recipe Directions/Method:


  1. First, boil the potato (aloo) in the cooker/microwave for 5 minutes. Peel it and keep it aside.
  2. Now make the paste of garlic and ginger.
  3. Now in a vessel, mix half cup of fresh curd, red chili, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala together.
  4. Now fry the potatoes in ghee/oil until they are golden brown and keep it aside.
  5. In a pan, add one big spoon of ghee and heat it, add cumin seeds to it.
  6. Now add garlic, ginger paste, onion paste and cook it well. Then add tomato paste and cook it.
  7. Now add yogurt into the gravy/masala and cook until it starts greasing.
  8. Now add salt to taste.
  9. Now add fried potatoes into the ready masala /gravy and cook it for five minutes. You can also add one cup of water to it if the gravy looks thicker.
  10. Turn off the gas after thoroughly cooking
  11. Serve the recipe in plate and decor with green coriander.
  12. Your Punjabi dum aloo recipe is ready, enjoy it with Indian bread or paratha.
